How many views do you need to make $1,000?

On TikTok, 1 to 2.5 million qualified views; on YouTube Shorts, about 2.5 million engaged views. Instagram, Facebook and X publish nothing you can turn into a number. The arithmetic for $1,000, $10,000 and $1 million, platform by platform.

Short answer: on TikTok, 1 to 2.5 million qualified views; on YouTube Shorts, about 2.5 million engaged views. Instagram, Facebook and X publish nothing you can turn into a number — and on every platform, the views that count are fewer than the views on the counter.

The arithmetic, by platform

Every row below is division on a published figure, not a rate any platform offers. Where a platform publishes nothing, the row says so rather than borrowing someone’s screenshot.

Views counted the way each programme counts them: qualified views on TikTok, engaged views on YouTube Shorts. Both are lower than the public view count.

Why the counter overstates it

  • TikTok counts a view only after five seconds, once per account, from eight countries, and only on videos over a minute. A library of 30-second videos earns nothing at any view count.
  • YouTube Shorts allocates its pool by engaged views, and the worked example assumes the pool, the music share and your share of views — all of which move month to month.
  • Instagram, Facebook and X either do not pay per view or will not say how they turn views into money, so any figure for them is one account’s result.

Where the rest of the money comes from

At these thresholds, per-view pay is rarely the whole story. Brand deals are priced on views too, but by the brand rather than the platform — which is why the number worth having is your typical views per post over time, not a single viral count. The platform detail is in TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X and Instagram, each with the platform’s own sources.

Posting the same video to all five is the cheapest way to find out which one pays you best. ViewPrinter posts to all five from one request and records each copy’s views, likes, comments, shares and saves as a series, as of the last sweep, so the comparison is five columns rather than five apps.
